Deadwooding is the best value in tree care and the most commonly deferred. Dead limbs are what come out of a canopy first when wind arrives, so removing them reduces what a mature tree can put through your roof without affecting the tree's health at all. On the big oaks and pecans in Goldsboro's older neighborhoods, it is usually the entire conversation.
Clearance is the other routine job: limbs off the roof, out of the driveway, and away from the service line into the house. Beyond the obvious risk, limbs resting on shingles abrade them every time the wind moves, which quietly shortens a roof by years.
Structural pruning belongs on young trees and almost nobody does it. Removing a competing leader or a weak, tight branch union while a tree is small prevents the failure that would otherwise arrive in fifteen years - and on fast-growing species in this climate, fifteen years arrives sooner than people expect. It is the cheapest tree work there is, performed on a tree nobody is worried about yet.
Every cut goes just outside the branch collar so the tree can seal it, and heavy limbs come off in three cuts so nothing tears bark down the trunk. One thing we will not do is top a tree. Cutting a crown back to stubs forces weak regrowth from every wound and starts decay at each one, producing a tree that is measurably more dangerous within a few years. If a tree is genuinely too big for where it stands, the honest choices are proper reduction pruning or removal, and we will tell you which one applies.
Every job starts the same way: decide which limbs actually need to come off, then place each cut where the tree can close it.
